As the Human Resources Manager, you will design, implement, and operate programs that empower BeeWees to make meaningful contributions to our community. Furthermore, you will step into an impactful role coaching, mentoring, and leading our Human Resources Generalists who are eager to learn, grow, and achieve great things in service to our mission. In partnership with the Director of Human Resources, you will scale the operations of the Human Resources team, so we are ready and able to support the increasing needs of the organization.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager leads assigned functions of human resources and provides strategic and tactical support across all functions. This position is responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring human resources team members and overseeing certain aspects of their work including but not limited to accommodations, benefits, compliance, health & safety, leaves of absence, onboarding, offboarding, and performance management. The Human Resources Manager assists the Director of Human Resources with other functions of human resources including but not limited to compensation, culture & engagement, employee relations, organizational design, talent management, and training & development.

Essential Job Duties

Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a group of enthusiastic HR professionals; establish clear expectations and provide timely direction, coaching, feedback, tools, training, and recognition necessary to cultivate exemplary performance
  • Design individual training and development plans to ensure direct reports are building the capacity, skills, and expertise needed to successfully grow the organization
  • Provide support and guidance to all team members when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise
  • Contribute to the development of the vision, goals, objectives, and systems of the HR department
  • Act on behalf of the Director of HR in their absence

Culture & Engagement

  • Proactively foster positive relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Partner with the Director of HR and other leaders to cultivate a culture that reflects the beliefs and values of the organization, drives engagement, and fosters belonging and inclusion for all employees
  • Maintain a strong awareness of equity, inclusion, and belonging issues and trends; share knowledge with others on the team and the Equity Committee
  • Assist the DHR with designing, planning, and implementing programs and policies specific to employee engagement

Coaching, Conflict Resolution, & Consultation

  • Serve as coach and advocate across all levels of the organization; refer to Bellwether’s values as appropriate
  • Lead mediation and conflict resolution as needed
  • Consult and guide employees regarding employment policies and procedures

Employee Relations

  • Serve as first point of intervention for employee relations; escalate to the Director of HR as appropriate
  • Help lead and investigate complaints against employees in accordance with Bellwether policies and values, and applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and practices
  • Balance needs of employees and the business; lead with a people first approach; take calculated risks

Performance Management

  • Develop performance reviews and performance improvement plans
  • Administer performance review process to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization
  • Continuously refine performance management process
  • Consult with People Leaders on employee performance and development
  • Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by coaching People Leaders on how to effectively manage performance

Total Rewards

  • Stay up to date with latest benefits, compensation, and recognition data/trends and provide recommendations to Director of Human Resources to improve Bellwether’s total rewards strategy
  • Conduct wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive compensation
  • Partner with Director of Human Resources to administer compensation program and ensure compliance and equity
  • Serve as first point of escalation for all benefit administration related questions and issues; approve benefit invoices
  • Evaluate, improve, and develop employee recognition programs

Compliance & Record-Keeping

  • Manage all people-related compliance activities related to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and practices
  • Oversee leave management; lead complex leaves of absence
  • Oversee health & safety, workers’ compensation, and unemployment
  • Regularly review policies and procedures to ensure they are legally compliant and promote equal treatment and organization core values; recommend updates and additions that align with the organization’s needs and compliance initiatives; maintain employee handbook
  • Ensure human resources records are retained according to the record retention policy

Organizational Design

  • Partner with Director of Human Resources to design and build scalable infrastructure, programs, processes, procedures, policies, and systems across all areas of HR
  • Coordinate systems and processes to ensure flow of information to appropriate stakeholders relative to recruiting, onboarding, employee changes, leaves of absence, and offboarding
  • Utilize people metrics to drive key insights and decisions

Miscellaneous

  • Stay up to date on HR trends; evaluate and present recommendations for changes to our operations
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending training, workshops, and conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies and industry groups
  • Lead and co-lead special projects

  • Bachelor’s degree, high school diploma or equivalent and commensurate years of work experience, OR high school diploma or equivalent and four years’ military service
  • 7+ years of progressive human resources experience in a HR generalist capacity
  • 3+ years of supervising other human resources employees
  • Experience using HRIS applications to support internal customers and operations
  • Bi-lingual a plus
  • Prior broad-based HR generalist and management experience to build out the HR function this scaling organization.
  • Prior complex ownership of all areas of Human Resources
  • Proven experience with compensation planning
  • Experience delivering training
  • Experiencing successfully managing multiple projects at one time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint) and Bellwether’s HRIS, Paylocity (or the ability to quickly learn it)
  • Ability to work collaboratively at all levels of the organization to influence and achieve results
  • Strong business acumen, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and initiative
  • Ability to manage several projects at once
  • Ability to influence and partner with different levels of the organization to achieve results
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Personal or professional experience in anti-oppression work
  • Commitment to anti-racism and dismantling institutional and systemic racism

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, flexible work schedule

Compensation: $87,007.75 - $97,859.75  per year DOE, benefits

Benefits: Bellwether Housing provides 24 days of PTO in the first year of employment for all employees working over 20 hours per week. We have a 403(b)-retirement plan with immediate eligibility for employee contributions and employer matching after 15 months of service; three medical plans to choose from, one with an employer funded HSA; dental; vision; flexible spending accounts, disability (short- and long-term); employer paid life insurance; and commuter benefits.
